At the Wankhede Stadium, who could ever forget India's devastating loss in the 2016 T20 World Cup semifinal against the West Indies? The Daren Sammy-led team, which ultimately defeated England to win the championship, chased more than 190 runs to get to the final. In the last over, Virat Kohli bowled to Andre Russell, who scored the winning runs for the Windies with a six. Just a few days after announcing his retirement from international competition, Russell has identified the aforementioned match as the "best moment" of his career.

The first two T20Is against Australia in Jamaica will mark Russell's departure from international cricket. Earlier this week, the all-rounder announced his retirement.

Russell was at his dazzling best in the semi-final match against India. Earlier, he had taken Ajinkya Rahane's wicket for 40 runs off 35 balls. He also helped Windies chase down 193 by scoring an undefeated 43 runs off 20 balls with three fours and four sixes.

When talking to Cricket West Indies about the match against India, Russell described it as the "best moment" of his career.

"The 2016 World Cup, without a doubt [was my best moment], especially that semi-final match against India when Lendl Simmons and I brought the squad home, as well as the excellent start we had from the other batters," Russell stated.

In addition, Russell provided a peek into the Windies locker room, stating that the full squad was sure that they could chase down 193 against India in the T20 World Cup semifinal.

The semi-final in India was already a little bit of a pressure since the crowd was entirely behind India, but the wicket was really good, so the assurance I had in the changing room and the batters that remained gave me the freedom and confidence to play the role I did," Russell said.

In 2016, India won the T20 World Cup

Following their victory over India in the semifinals, the West Indies pulled off a stunning victory against Eoin Morgan's England team in the championship game held at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The championship game is known for Carlos Brathwaite's four straight sixes against Ben Stokes in the last over.

The West Indies had previously won the T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka in 2012, making this the second time the team has participated in the tournament.

Russell declared his retirement earlier, saying that he had enjoyed every minute of representing the West Indies.

The all-rounder, who plays for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), said, "I love playing for the West Indies and I love playing at home in front of my family and friends, where I get to showcase my talent and produce more high-quality performances."

"I want to end my international career on a high note while serving as an example for the next generation of Caribbean cricketers," he stated.
