On Sunday, the crowd at Roland Garros was treated to excellent tennis as Carlos Alcaraz, the reigning champion, overcame Jannik Sinner to win the French Open 2025 men's singles championship. After falling two sets behind, the Spaniard displayed incredible tenacity. Sinner seized the lead early on and won the first two sets with scores of 6-4 and 7-6.

Following this, Alcaraz delivered the ideal response, taking the third set (6-4) and then securing the fourth as well (7-6). The Spaniard prevailed in the fifth set, which went to a tie-breaker, winning it 10-2 and also securing the victory in the last set, 7-6.

Roland Garros final with the most extended duration ever

With a total duration of five hours and twenty-nine minutes, it was the longest Roland Garros championship game in history. The longest French Open final in the Open Era, which lasted four hours and forty-seven minutes, occurred in 1982, when Mats Wilander defeated Guillermo Vilas.

In his post-game remarks, Alcaraz complimented Sinner and said, "I am quite confident that you will win the championship not once, but many, many times." Sharing the court with you in every competition is an honor.

"You are a huge inspiration to young children and to me, and I am genuinely thrilled to be able to create history with you in this competition, in other tournaments."

In addition, he gave a shout-out to the fans, who were instrumental in his victory. “Then Paris, guys, I mean, you have been a really important support to me since the first practice, since the first round,” he said.

"You were amazing. I was crazy about you. I mean, I just can't, can't express my gratitude enough for your wonderful help throughout the week, and for today's game.

"You were really, really important for today's game. You are constantly in my heart and will continue to be. So thanks. Paris, I'm grateful to you. See you next year," he said.
