Alcaraz Triumphs Over Sinner in Record-Breaking French Open Final to Defend Title

The longest French Open men's singles final in history saw Carlos Alcaraz defeat world number one Jannik Sinner to retain his title at Roland Garros. Alcaraz, who was two sets behind at the beginning, rallied to win a decisive 4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 7-6 victory against Sinner and win consecutive French Open championships.

The Spaniard demonstrated tremendous perseverance and fortitude by winning three straight sets after losing the first two sets 4-6, 6-7, and then he defeated Sinner in an instant classic. In the third and fourth sets, Sinner's grip loosened slightly, but he gave a strong performance in the last to bring it to a conclusion. Ultimately, Alcaraz was able to win the tie-breaker and gain the advantage. The longest final in French Open history lasted five hours and twenty-nine minutes, making it an all-time favorite. It easily surpassed the 1982 championship in Paris, where Mats Wilander defeated Guillermo Vilas in four sets in 4 hours and 42 minutes. Sinner's defeat in a Grand Slam final was a first for him.

On a sun-drenched Court Philippe Chatrier, relentless baseline pressure gave Sinner the opportunity to break early in the second set, and the top seed started to put the pressure on Alcaraz, who was on the ropes with a 1-4 deficit.

Alcaraz was on the offensive from the start, eliciting thunderous applause when he tied the score after 10 games and then won a tiebreak. However, after the clock struck two hours, Sinner gained the lead with a powerful forehand winner and then doubled his advantage.

Alcaraz, who had never recovered from being two sets behind, fought valiantly in an attempt to prevent his first defeat in a major final. He managed to pull a set back before valiantly saving three match points at 3-5 down in the fourth set, eventually tying the score via the tiebreak.

With his victory in the Grand Slam finals, Carlos Alcaraz continues his winning streak

The 22-year-old Spaniard defeated Sinner, who was on a 20-match winning streak in the majors, to increase his perfect Grand Slam finals record to 5-0.

As he continues to spearhead the charge for the next generation of tennis, Alcaraz's exciting win made him the third-youngest man in history, after Bjorn Borg and fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal, to win five Grand Slam championships.

Following his US Open victory last year and consecutive Australian Open victories, Sinner missed winning a third straight Grand Slam championship by a whisker.

In their first encounter in a Grand Slam final—and the first championship match at a major between two men born in the 2000s—he lost to Alcaraz for the fifth time in a row.

Having also defeated Sinner in Rome, where the Italian made his comeback to racing after a three-month doping ban, Alcaraz has a commanding 8-5 advantage overall.
