Rain in Ahmedabad caused two delays to the commencement of the IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 match between the Punjab Kings and the Mumbai Indians. MI owners Akash and Nita Ambani were visibly concerned by what they saw.

The weather in Ahmedabad was dry and sunny in the days leading up to the playoffs match, which did raise worries about the possibility of a complete game at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Nevertheless, just after Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bowl first, taking the weather into account, the game was interrupted twice at the beginning.

With views of Mumbai, the players prepared to enter the field. The camera captured the groundsmen rushing to cover the pitch as No. 3 Tilak Varma performed shadow batting drills in the dugout. They were forced to move swiftly by a light rain, but the covers came off right away.

Iyer was then seen sprinting toward the boundary ropes as a torrential downpour began in Ahmedabad, and the Punjab Kings team exited during the pyrotechnics. The remaining players returned to their respective dugouts, but Akash and Nita were worried since a washout game on Sunday might bring Mumbai's season to a close.

If the match between MI and PBKS is canceled, what would happen?

Since there isn't a reserve day set for the Qualifier 2 tie, a washout in Ahmedabad would send Punjab Kings into the final because they had a better position in the points table at the conclusion of the league stage. With Iyer leading the way, Mumbai came in fourth place, while the Iyer-led team ultimately came out on top.

According to the IPL's Playing Conditions announcement for the 2025 season of the competition, "If circumstances do not allow a Super Over or subsequent Super Overs within the time available to decide the winner, then the team that finished in the higher position in the League at the end of the relevant regular Season will be considered the winner of the relevant play-off match."

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru will then play Punjab in Ahmedabad on Tuesday in the championship game. Earlier, in the first Qualifier on Thursday in Chandigarh, RCB beat Punjab by eight wickets to advance to its first IPL final in nine years.
