India head coach Gautam Gambhir was given no quarter on Wednesday when captain Shubman Gill announced at the toss that Jasprit Bumrah would be rested for the second Test match against England in Birmingham. Particularly after what transpired in Leeds in the series opener, where India lost by five wickets, the strategy was ridiculed by experts and fans on social media. However, Akash Deep, the guy who took Bumrah's place in the starting XI, filled the void with flair by unleashing a scorching new-ball burst that shook England.

Experts were worried by the lackluster performance of the other quicks at Headingley in the first Test match. They advised the team administration not to rest Bumrah, who stood out in the match with his five-wicket haul. It was widely speculated that India had already decided that the 31-year-old would only play three Test matches on the tour in order to manage his workload.

However, Akash was chosen in place of Bumrah to keep the latter fresh for the third Test at the Lord's, which starts next week, despite requests from Gambhir and Gill. However, the Bengal fast bowler silenced the criticism with a scorching new-ball burst during the final session on day 2 of the second Test, a day after the widely criticized action.

Akash took Ben Duckett's wicket for a five-ball duck in the third over of the innings. The left-handed hitter attempted to hit the length ball outside off through the covers, but instead got a thick outside edge, which Shubman Gill skillfully caught at slip, creating yet another magical moment. Ollie Pope, who had hit a hundred in Leeds, was caught by KL Rahul at second slip for a golden duck on the next ball from the quick bowler.

In the eighth over, Mohammed Siraj joined the celebration and dismissed Zak Crawley, which added to England's woes. In contrast to the shorter delivery outside the off stump, which slightly swung away, Crawley attempted to punch it away from the body but instead got a thick outside edge, and Karun Nair made no errors at first slip.

The home team was dealt a blow when they lost three wickets for only 25 runs in the first 43 balls of a batting paradise, where England was predicted to equal India's first innings score of 587.

India captain Gill had earlier broken the record for the highest score by an Asian captain in England with 269, which was the best score ever recorded by a visiting Asian captain in the nation. In addition, it was his highest score in first-class cricket.
