Aiden Markram South Africa's opening batsman, answered the call by scoring a century in the current World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia on Friday at Lord's Cricket Ground. In pursuit of 282, Markram gave the Proteas a good start, and on Day 3, he finally scored his eighth Test century off 156 balls. He reached the milestone while bowling Josh Hazlewood in the game's 55th over.

Markram showed a combination of caution and boldness as he subdued the well-known Australian pace assault led by Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Pat Cummins. South Africa displayed no indications of taking the backseat, and he even refused to allow Nathan Lyon get comfortable at the wicket.

Markram celebrated very cautiously when the three-figure milestone was mentioned. He simply removed his helmet to savor the cheers of the whole audience at Lord's Cricket Ground. The South African players all joined together in applauding the seasoned campaigner's performance.

The right-handed batsman, who had trouble with the runs in the first innings, was not in the least bit inclined to retreat as he began to attack right away. South Africa suffered the consequences of being excessively careful in the opening over. Markram appeared to have learned from his error as he continued to send boundless loose deliveries to the boundary fence.

Markram initially partnered with Wiaan Mulder to score 61 runs for the second wicket before teaming up with Temba Bavuma, the captain of South Africa, to increase the suffering on the defending WTC champions. As Pat Cummins and his teammates were powerless to stop the assault, Bavuma, who is battling a hamstring injury, also reached his half-century along the way.

South Africa finished Day 3 with a score of 213 for 2. To create history and win their first WTC title, the Proteas need 69 more runs. Markram becomes only the third batter to score a century in the World Test Championship summit clash, following Travis Head and Steve Smith.

Steve Smith wounded his finger on Day 3 when he dropped a catch of Bavuma off Mitchell Starc's bowling. The No. 4 Australian batter then left the pitch and was brought to the hospital for scans.

Australia established a target of 282.

Earlier, in the second innings on Day 3, Australia was dismissed for 207, giving the Proteas a 282-run target. Mitchell Starc led Australia in scoring with an unbeaten 58.

Kagiso Rabada took four wickets for South Africa, making him the best of the bowlers. At one point in the second innings, Australia was 73/7, but Starc and Carey prevented the team from being dismissed for a low total.

With Pat Cummins taking six wickets, Australia took a 74-run lead in the first inning.

Temba Bavuma, the captain of South Africa, chose to bowl first at Lord's Cricket Ground after winning the toss in the WTC final.
