Aaron Rodgers is now a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. The 41-year-old signal-caller agreed to a one-year, $19.6 million contract with the Steelers last weekend. The deal's floor is $13.6 million, and it represents a significant shift in direction for Rodgers, who was let go by the New York Jets in March.

After a brief and injury-ridden time with the Jets, Rodgers considered his choices: retiring from the NFL after twenty years or playing in his 21st season. During the Steelers' first mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, Rodgers stated in front of reporters, "It was here [to play in Pittsburgh] or not play," despite the fact that numerous clubs, including the New York Giants, had shown interest.

Rodgers had allegedly chatted with the Giants throughout free agency and had even complimented their head coach, Brian Daboll, during the summer, which is noteworthy. However, the star QB may have been aided in making the choice by the Giants' 3-14 record in 2024 and an uncertain outlook at quarterback.

He seems to want to end his illustrious career in Pittsburgh, despite the outside curiosity.

Following a disappointing 2024 season in which they were eliminated from the playoffs after just one game, the Steelers are now looking ahead. Despite leading the Pittsburgh squad to the playoffs during his 11 games there, veteran quarterback Russell Wilson was not kept. Instead, Wilson and Jameis Winston signed short-term contracts with the Giants, who also selected quarterback Jaxson Dart in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Rodgers joins a Pittsburgh quarterback lineup that includes Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson, and Will Howard, a sixth-round rookie who has already made a good impression on the veteran.

“Will's a good kid. We chatted a bit, and I think he performed really well today,” Rodgers said following practice. “He appears to be fairly intelligent.” It's not too large for him. “Making excellent progress through the transitions.”
