The only ambition of the young filmmaker D Satya Prakash was to play cricket and make a living as a cricketer. However, this was not to be due to an episode of bad health that occurred during a key year, right before he was about to reach the age limit for competing at the state level. Satya wasn't raised on a diet of films that promoted good health, but after being exposed to the world of literature, he devoted his life to cinema and read anything he could get his hands on.

V Manohar gave Satya Prakash his first break

He loved the concept of storytelling, but he was unsure of how to express it. Even when he eventually realized that film was the way for him, entering the field remained a challenging endeavor. “I spent two and a half years traveling around and have stood in front of nearly everyone's home who was connected to film at the time. I stood in front of Upendra's house for eight months and even gave him some examples of my writing, but at the time, he wasn't in charge of anything and said he'd get in touch if there was a chance. Satya remembers that V Manohar sir was the one who first introduced me to the film business.

Satya's cinematic career began when Manohar persuaded him to create fake lyrics for his song. However, it was when he started working with TS Nagabharana that he transitioned into directing and having a thorough knowledge of filmmaking. “I had not watched a lot of movies until then, so whatever craft I know now, it all came from my days with Nagabharana sir,” he adds.

Satya’s first film was Rama Rama Re, which he followed up with Ondalla Eradalla, Man of the Match and now, X&Y, which will be in theatres on June 26, 2025. This time around, Satya is telling a simple fun fantasy film revolving around an unborn soul and its perceptions of the world while on a ‘trip’ to earth. Satya is joined by Atharva Prakash, Brinda Acharya and Ayaana, among others, on the cast of the film.
