The man behind the music of films like Ugramm, Mufti, KGF, Salaar and many more, Ravi Basrur is also an occasional filmmaker, having made movies like Gargar Mandala, Bilinder, Kataka , Girmit and Kadal. His latest, Veera Chandrahasa, was a passion project, he’d said – one that he hoped would put the spotlight firmly on an ancient art form – Yakshagana.

The movie Veera Chandrahasa, which premiered in theaters on April 18, 2025, received a range of reviews. While some viewers liked that it deviated from typical commercial masala films, others were less enthralled by the effort to recreate a Yakshagana performance on film. The movie's reception, which, according to sources, was favorable only in the state's coastal region, where Yakshagana is more common, was also not helped by the fact that Basrur's music alternated between between good and bad.

Basrur announced earlier today that Veera Chandrahasa would be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video starting May 30, 2025. Century Star Shivarajkumar makes a crucial cameo in the movie, which stars Shithil Shetty, Nagashree GS, Prasanna Shettigar Mandarti, Uday Kadabaal, Ravindra Devadiga, Nagaraj Servegar, Gunashree M Nayak, Shridhar Kasarkodu, Shwetha Arehole, Prajwal Kinnal, and many more.
The story of an orphan who later becomes the brave and virtuous King Veera Chandrahasa is told in Veera Chandrahasa, as the title implies. Veera Chandrahasa's battles with Dushtabuddhi, who is trying to gain control of the kingdom, are the subject of the novel. Prasanna Shettigar as Dushtabuddhi and Shithil Shetty as Veera Chandrahasa were both lauded for their performances, with Shivarajkumar's cameo standing out as well.
