Due to the disappointment it brought with it, the recently released Tamil film Thug Life, which stars actor-politician Kamal Haasan in the main role, has not been performing well at the box office. We had also just announced that the movie might soon break its eight-week window period for OTT release. The makers are further compelled to release the picture on a streaming platform sooner than anticipated, even if the movie suffered a significant setback prior to its release as a result of the debate surrounding the Karnataka release and the state distributor seeming reluctant to release Thug Life anymore.

Thug Life OTT release:

Even before the debut of Thug Life, Kamal Haasan had stated confidently that it would be a "pragmatic" move to distribute the film on OTT eight weeks after it hit theaters. However, things have drastically changed since the most anticipated picture was out. Thug Life, which generated great excitement among its followers, turned out to be a letdown. The movie also failed financially, earning less than Rs 100 crore so far across the world.

The Karnataka distributors have also openly declared that it doesn't make sense to release the movie in the state, considering that it has been two weeks since the debut and the negative reviews also contribute to it, which is the recent blow to the producers of Thug Life. This will now increase the pressure on producers of Thug Life to publish it soon on Netflix, which has secured the OTT rights. Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan, the film's producers, are currently negotiating with the streaming service to set a release date. The movie may be expected to be released by the end of June or the first week of July.

The film, which stars Kamal in the lead role, is directed by Mani Ratnam and also features an ensemble cast of stars including Simbu, Trisha, Nasser, Abhirami, Joju George, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ashok Selvan, and others. Thug Life is a gangster action drama about an old gangster who is threatened by his adopted son and who sets up a game of deception, emotion, and action, with Ravi K Chandran turning the camera and music by AR Rahman.
