After a three-year break, the Tamil movie Thug Life brought together the legendary Kamal Haasan and director Mani Ratnam. Despite the duo's popularity with viewers, the picture fell short of expectations, leading to a disappointing box office result. The movie is now available on OTT streaming services, only one month after its theatrical debut.

Netflix releases Thug Life

Netflix seems to have shattered the norm for Thug Life, even though the majority of movies have an eight-week window between their theatrical and OTT release. The movie's digital release on the streaming site was announced via social media, which said:

"Want to see who wins the game between Death and Rangaraya Sakthivel? Watch Thug Life, now available on Netflix in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam #ThugLifeOnNetflix #Thuglife #KamalHaasan #SilambarasanTR A #ManiRatnam Film An @arrahman Musical."

Following Kamal Haasan's contentious assertion that "Kannada was born from Tamil," the movie was prohibited in Karnataka for the uninformed. "It is a democracy. I believe in the law and justice," the actor retorted, rejecting to apologize. I really care about Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. Those with an agenda will be the only ones who will suspect it. I've been threatened before, and if I'm mistaken, I'll apologize, but if I'm not, I won't.

Even though the Supreme Court authorized its release, the movie was not shown in Karnataka because the distributor there refused to move forward.

About Thug Life

Simbu, Trisha, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Nasser, Joju George, Ali Fazal, and others appear in the action drama. It recounts the tale of a senior mobster whose adopted son rebels against him for revenge. The film, which is co-produced by Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam, features music by AR Rahman.

Thug Life was criticized upon its release for Kamal's drawn-out monologues and a disorganized second half. Indeed, some viewers thought Mani Ratnam had merely reinvented Mirzapur. With a global box office total of only ₹97.25 crore, the movie was unable to replicate the cinematic enchantment of their previous collaboration Nayakan.
