The second day of the worldwide box office hit Thug Life: This Thursday saw the release of Mani Ratnam's highly anticipated reunion picture with Kamal Haasan, which had been 40 years in the making. The movie got a mixed reception, with several critics focusing on the second half. The movie has made Rs 52 crore globally, according to Sacnilk.

Worldwide box office sales for Thug Life

According to the commercial website, Thug Life's net revenue in India was 22.65 crores and its gross revenue was 26.30 crores over the course of two days. In two days, the total collection worldwide reached ₹52 crore thanks to the ₹25.70 crore from abroad. Given that it's a Kamal and Mani film, expectations for the film were higher, even though the numbers are good.

To provide context, Kamal and Shankar's previous film, Indian 2, made ₹84 crores in two days despite receiving horrible reviews. In two days, Mani's blockbuster movies Ponniyin Selvan – I & II earned ₹110 crore and ₹146.65 crore, respectively. But it is still unclear whether sales will increase throughout the weekend, given the movie's solid performance throughout the week.

Also worth mentioning is that the Kannada language dispute caused the picture to not be released in Karnataka, which would have had an impact on the figures as well. The picture is predicted to cost around 400 million rupees in total.

About Thug Life

After the 1987 cult hit Nayakan, Thug Life is Mani and Kamal's first collaboration. In the movie, Kamal plays the same character, Shaktivel, as in his prior collaboration with Mani. But this time around, he's known as Shakti rather than Velu. The gangster drama centers around him and his adopted son, Amaran, portrayed by Silambarasan. Other cast members include Trisha Krishnan, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, Ali Fazal, and Abhirami.
