In the week prior to the release of actor Kamal Haasan's highly anticipated Mani Ratnam film Thug Life, a few low-budget Tamil movies were released, including The Verdict, which, notably, featured Suhasini Maniratnam in a key role. The movie, which was completely filmed in the United States, had a subdued theatrical debut on May 30 and didn't generate much excitement. The reviews were likewise divided, praising the performances while criticizing the plot.

But the Verdict is one of the rare fortunate films to have a fast turnaround to OTT, and it landed on Sun NXT within a month of its theatrical debut. Despite its title, the movie, which stars Sruthi Hariharan, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Vidyullekha Raman, and Prakash Mohandas, a producer and actor, in the lead roles, is not entirely a courtroom drama and also explores the revenge thriller genre.

Prior to the movie's debut, Sruthi told OTTplay that, in addition to the fact that the plot has more to it than what is seen, what she found interesting was that her character is at the center of it. Namrutha, played by Sruthi in the movie, is charged with killing Elisa (Suhasini), her buddy, after the latter named her as the beneficiary of a substantial inheritance in her will. Varalaxmi's lawyer, Maya, who is in charge of obtaining Namrutha's acquittal, is portrayed by her, but this may be challenging due to the public's suspicion of her.

The audience is left to determine for themselves if Namrutha was set up for her friend's death or if she truly committed a well-planned murder. After an eight-year break, Sruthi's debut Tamil picture, The Verdict, was released, which she was really looking forward to. The last time the actress appeared on Kannada television was in Head Bush, the Daali Dhananjaya-directed biopic of MP Jayaraj. She has a few movies scheduled for release.
