The horror comedy was released on July 18, 2025. After a short theatrical run earlier this year, The Bhootnii will be available on ZEE5's OTT platform (OTTplay Premium). The movie was produced by Deepak Mukut and Sanjay Dutt, and it was written and directed by Sidhaant Sachdev. On May 1, 2025, it was shown in theaters. Dutt is accompanied by an ensemble cast that includes Sunny Singh, Mouni Roy, Palak Tiwari, Nikunj Lotia, and Aasif Khan.

Haunting tale set in fictional college

The story takes place at a fictitious Delhi institution called St. Vincent's, and it centers around the strange events surrounding a "Virgin Tree," which is described as a "supposed love charm for desperate romantics, particularly on Valentine's Day." However, on the eve of Holika Dahan, a student invariably passes away under strange circumstances. According to legend, the tree is haunted by the ghost of a vengeful woman who steals a soul every year.

After a breakup, a heartbroken student named Shantanu, portrayed by Sunny Singh, goes to the tree in the hopes of finding love once more. Upon hearing Shantanu's heartfelt plea, the ghost named Mohabbat, played by Mouni Roy, develops a hazardous infatuation for him. As Mohabbat starts to threaten everyone who tries to split Shantanu and her, the plot thickens. To address the paranormal issue, the university seeks advice from Baba, a paraphysicist and former student (Sanjay Dutt). With the aid of odd equipment and a carefree demeanor, Baba learns about Mohabbat's sad past and her connection to the establishment.

Release delays

The theatrical release of The Bhootnii was postponed from its planned date of April 18, 2025, due to unfinished visual effects. Its eventual release on May 1 was only mildly backed by the business. Dutt was one of many individuals who made a public appeal for more theater screenings and attendance to theatregoers and theater owners.

Despite the film's limited release and modest budget, it received a mix of positive and negative feedback from reviewers and the general public. Dutt's performance received high praise from many individuals, as did the performances of Palak Tiwari and Nikunj Lotia, also known as BeYouNick, who was making his debut. Although the image was mostly viewed as comedy rather than horror, viewers especially complimented the humor and delivery of the conversation. The Bhootnii was compared to Stree by people naturally, and they found it to be amusing even if it didn't quite live up to the hype.

The film is anticipated to reach a broader audience with its digital release on ZEE5. On July 18, those who were unable to see it in theatres will be able to watch it online without leaving their homes.
