Superman vs. Man of Steel

The best-opening solo Superman movie ever is currently Superman. With $217 million in its opening weekend, it represents a significant increase over the $190 million that Zack Snyder's Henry Cavill-starrer Man of Steel earned in 2013. Before that, Superman Returns (2006), which starred Brandon Routh, had its debut with a little over $100 million. The original Superman film (the one from 1978 with Christopher Reeve) earned $7.5 million in North America during its first weekend, demonstrating how much the times have changed. At that point, it was the highest ever for any Warner Bros. picture.
