Superman Tops India Box Office, Outshining Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan and Maalik; James Gunn Triumphs on Bollywood’s Home Ground

In theaters, two Bollywood films with a moderate budget were released this Friday. Rajkummar Rao's massive turn in Maalik at the box office coincided with Shanaya Kapoor's long-delayed debut in Aankhon ki Gustaakhiyan. A Hollywood film beat both of them fairly and squarely, so neither came out on top at the conclusion of the opening weekend. The highest-grossing film in India this weekend is James Gunn's Superman reboot, which has surpassed the two Hindi releases.

India's Superman box office results

With David Corenswet as the new Man of Steel, Superman debuted on Friday with a net worth of Rs 7 crore and went on to have a strong weekend, bringing its net earnings in India to Rs 25.50 crore. According to data released by Universal Studios India, the movie made ₹32 crore gross in India during its first weekend. The majority of the movie's box office revenue has come from the original English version, and the film has done well there. Trade sources claim that the dubbed versions (Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu) have brought in a total net income of about ₹7.5 crore.

The Way Superman Conquered Bollywood

Rajkummar Rao's action thriller Maalik only brought in roughly ₹15 crore net during its opening weekend, as opposed to Superman's ₹25.50 crore, according to the film's producers. With a poor opening of ₹3.75 crore, the picture rebounded on Saturday. But the movie, which was directed by Pulkit, didn't improve on Sunday. Aankhon ki Gustaakhiyan, Shanaya Kapoor's debut film, which also stars Vikrant Massey in the title role, has only made Rs 1.20 crore in its first three days and has had a terrible start at the box office.

Under James Gunn's direction, Superman signals the start of a fresh DC Universe, which the filmmaker oversaw during his tenure as co-chair of DC Studios. Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult are the other main actors in the movie, besides David Corenswet. The reception to Superman has been overwhelmingly favorable.
