Today, July 14, the producers of the forthcoming Malayalam movie Sumathi Valavu announced an update on its theatrical debut. The horror thriller, which features Arjun Ashokan in the starring role, will be released in theaters on August 1.

Update on the release date of Sumathi Valavu

Due to unexplained circumstances, the film's theatrical debut, which was planned for May, was delayed. With Kathir and Hakkim Shajahan's Meesha, it will now make its big screen debut. The manufacturers unveiled this most recent improvement via a new poster. Sumathi Valavu has also been proven to have been financed by Gokulam Gopalan under the banner of Sree Gokulam Movies.

Sumathi Valavu plot and cast details

Earlier reports stated that the movie is partially based on the actual tale of Sumathi Valavu, a well-known location in the Trivandrum district. The movie is set in the 1990s and is based on a chilling folktale from this area. A motion poster that the directors previously uploaded claims that Sumathi, a pregnant Tamil woman, is the soul protector of this enigmatic location. As a result, the area is known as Sumathi Valavu.

The screenplay for the horror comedy, which Vishnu Sasi Shankar directed, was written by Abhilash Pillai. Malikappuram, which Vishnu previously helmed, is now available on JioHotstar and OTTplay Premium. P V Shankar, who was in charge of the camera work for the project, had previously worked on the Tamil film Ratsasan, which starred Amala Paul and Vishnu Vishal. Ranjin Raj wrote the film's original music and lyrics.

In Sumathi Valavu, crucial roles are played by Balu Varghese, Gokul Suresh, Saiju Kurup, Malavika Manoj, Niranj Maniyanpillai, Shyam Mohan, and Siddharth Bharathan. In addition, the ensemble features Bobby Kurian, Manoj K U, Nandu, and Shravan Mukesh in supporting roles. The Malayalam film is also being produced by Waterman Films LLP in association with Murali Kunnumpurath. Sumathi Valavu began filming in Palakkad in November 2024 and concluded in January.
