Sitaare Zameen Par Box Office: Hit or Miss After ₹200 Crore Mark?
5 months ago | 5 Views
The monsters that were plaguing Aamir Khan's movies at the box office seem to have been vanquished by him. During the last seven years, the actor has appeared in just two movies: Laal Singh Chaddha and Thugs of Hindostan. Both failed miserably at the box office. For this reason, the superstar's future depended on the success of his most recent album, Sitaare Zameen Par. With its worldwide gross surpassing ₹200 crore, the picture is now being hailed as a hit. If it is, we decipher it.
The box office revenue for Sitaare Zameen Par
In the 15 days since it was released in theaters, the film directed by RS Prasanna has grossed ₹164.80 crore in India and net ₹137.80 crore. The total global gross for Sitaare Zameen Par is an amazing ₹217.50 crore when combined with over $6 million gross from outside. With only Raid 2, Housefull 5, and Chhaava ahead of it, this is the fourth-highest-grossing Hindi film of 2025. By the end of its run, it will almost certainly be among the top three, and it could even surpass Housefull 5 for the second spot if the buzz persists.
Interestingly, Sitaare Zameen Par has already brought in more money in India throughout its lifetime than Laal Singh Chaddha and Ghajini, and it will surpass Thugs of Hindostan this Sunday (July 6). After that, just four Aamir films are left in front of it: 3 Idiots, Dhoom 3, PK, and Dangal.
Is Sitaare Zameen Par a success?
However, is Sitaare Zameen Par a success only because it is surrounded by Aamir's greatest hits? Adipurush was a huge failure, despite making more than 300 crores of rupees worldwide. Fortunately, this is not true for Sitaare Zameen Par. The movie's production budget is only ₹90 crore, and it was made by Aamir Khan Productions. The movie's landing price is less than ₹150 crore, excluding the budget for marketing and promotion, according to trade sources. It has already made more than that from its domestic collections alone.
The 16th day of its release, Saturday, saw Sitaare continue to perform well, bringing in about ₹7 crore in revenue worldwide. On its third Saturday, it increased by more than 140%. These sturdy legs indicate that the film won't start to slow down for at least two more weeks. Although Sitaare Zameen Par is already a hit, it might become a superhit or even a blockbuster if its run goes on.
Will the lack of live streaming rights harm Aamir Khan?
Sitaare Zameen Par is unique in recent Indian film history for not selling its streaming rights for millions of rupees. Aamir Khan stated unequivocally that the picture will never be made available on OTT. Therefore, the movie has made some gains from satellite and music rights, but a sizable portion of its pre-release income is still lost in the form of streaming rights. Nevertheless, trade experts claim that it might have benefited Aamir.

On all three Saturdays that Sitaare Zameen Par has been in theaters, it has had leaps of 90–140%. The audience wants to see the film in theaters, in part because of the positive feedback, and in part because they know it won't be available on OTT after it leaves the theaters. Hopefully, the movie's exclusivity has increased its revenue by a few crores, thereby offsetting whatever profit Aamir would have made if he had sold the rights.
However, it is evident that the reason Sitaare Zameen Par has not been released for Aamir is not financial. Its objective is to give the movie a theater run that is free of distractions and interruptions. In that respect, he is doing well. The joy of the exhibitors, who just congratulated him as "box office ka baap," speaks for itself.
