Shabana Azmi, Naseeruddin Shah, and filmmaker Shekhar Kapur are reuniting for a project that will be their second partnership in 42 years, following their work on the 1983 movie Masoom. What's Love Got to Do with It? is the name of the initiative. The upcoming generation of Masoom is currently filming with a cast of both seasoned and new actors, including Kaveri Kapur (the daughter of Shekhar Kapur) and Manoj Bajpayee.

Designing the future of Masoom

The workshops for the movie have already begun, and Azmi and Kaveri are currently preparing for the filming. The veteran actor informed Mid Day that the crew is now running classes with Kaveri, and Shekhar wants the performers to be very creative.

The Next Generation explores extremely personal topics. The screenplay has frequently dealt with Shekhar's struggle to define himself during their relationship. Her personality has been heavily impacted by her nani. The actor added that Shekhar recalled some of the incidents between Kaveri and her role.

Redefining what a home is

The concept of "home" changes throughout time, as seen in the follow-up. Azmi states that her depiction of Kaveri's grandmother will be visually stunning. In her view, it's essential to her approach to acting that she takes on a unique look for each character. Due to her excessive concern for how she presents herself, the protagonist experiences hardship. When inhabiting a character's world, she continued, it is ultimately about finding one's soul.

Known for her strong views on acting, Azmi has expressed her dissatisfaction with the current trend of concentrating on actors' off-screen personalities. In contemporary media, she is vocal in her disapproval of the emphasis on celebrities' fashion sense. "Why is there so much emphasis on which designer one chooses to wear? The paps' obsession with singling out how much a bag or a pair of sunglasses costs is loathsome," she said.

Sequel steeped in nostalgia

With Naseeruddin Shah reprising his legendary character and Nithya Menen joining the cast, fans of the original film are already thrilled about the comeback of these critically acclaimed performers, even though production on Masoom: The Next Generation has only recently begun. With Shekhar Kapur back in a narrative that is so inextricably related to his experiences, the sequel is starting to resemble a highly intimate continuation of a cherished classic.
