The box office was set ablaze by Saiyaara on its opening day. The musical romance, which was directed by Mohit Suri and featured newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, earned 21 million rupees on its debut day. Considering that the two lead actors did no publicity for the movie, the hype that the film generated among viewers and fans in the run-up to its release is all the more amazing.

With 8,000 performances throughout India, Saiyaara has achieved this massive opening, which is less than half of the typical 18,000 performances needed for a ₹20 crore+ opening. On its opening day, major national chains also reported sold-out performances in important markets.

The actors were not subject to public scrutiny, and there was no traditional publicity or marketing strategy in place when these milestones were reached. As a result, there was no visibility, no interviews, no city visits, no reels, and no content from influencers. All of these records were broken by the movie because of the potency of its content, which was advertised to the whole country.

With its Day 1 collections, Saiyaara has surpassed all the previous box office records listed below:

The largest opening day in history for a movie with a debutant-led cast

With newcomers as the leads, Saiyaara holds the record for the highest first-day revenue ever made by a Hindi film in the history of Indian cinema. Previously, the film Dhadak, which starred Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter in their acting debuts, held the record. In 2018, Dhadak was made available to the public. On its debut day in India, the film made a net profit of ₹8.76 crore.

India's largest opening day for a love story in cinema

The size of Saiyaara's premiere is unique since it is not a high-budget action picture or a film starring any of the industry's major actors. It's unusual for a romantic picture starring debutantes to begin in this manner. Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya earned ₹6.7 crore on its first day, while Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, earned ₹11.1 crore in 2023.

With a ₹21 crore debut, Saiyara has beat out some of the other films, which were love stories and brought in a lot of money on their release day, such as Kabir Singh (₹20.21 crore) and Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar ( ₹15.73 crore).

For a debutante film, the highest ticket sales on opening day since 2000.

The number of advanced bookings for Saiyaara set a number of records. According to Sacnilk, the film's last advance booking total for its first day was 9.39 crore rupees. Only 3.8 lakh tickets were sold in advance sales. Saiyara sold 1,38,000 tickets in the national chains, which included PVR INOX (1,05,000) and Cinepolis (33,000), as reported by Taran Adarsh in a tweet.

Prior to this, in 2000, both Abhishek Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor's debut film Refugee and Hrithik Roshan's debut film Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai had a similar impact on their release day.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge earned 55 lakh on its opening day, but before 2000, Shah Rukh Khan's Kuch Kuch Hota Hai held the record for the greatest opening day with 87 lakh. Hum Aapke Hain Koun! opened with 10 lakh.

Mohit Suri's finest directorial debut

Mohit Suri's career-best debut was recorded by Saiyaara. Previously, it was held by Ek Villain, who made ₹16.70 crore on its opening day in 2014. Murder 2, on the other hand, earned ₹6.95 crore on its opening day, while Aashiqui 2, which was released in 2013, debuted at ₹6.10 crore.

Saiyaara is now in a category where it has also outperformed some of the year's biggest releases, with a price tag of ₹21 crore. The list comprises Kesari Chapter 2 (₹7.75 crore) by Akshay, Sitaare Zameen Par (₹10.7 crore) by Aamir Khan, Raid 2 (₹19.25 crore) by Ajay Devgn, and Sky Force (₹12.25 crore) by Akshay Kumar.
