Umrao Jaan, Rekha's timeless musical drama, is scheduled to be re-released in cinemas on June 27 in a stunning 4K restoration. NFDC-NFAI completed the film's 4K restoration. The re-release is accompanied by a limited-edition coffee table book from director Muzaffar Ali that gives a rare glimpse behind the scenes of the production of Umrao Jaan.

The book is a collector's item and a thoughtful homage to the film's artistic vision, including previously unpublished images, costume designs, calligraphy, poetry, and behind-the-scenes stories.

As Umrao Jaan prepares for a re-release, Rekha claims that her "heart is full."

According to the veteran actress, Umrao Jaan is still very much a part of her life, even though she only played the role in the movie.

"None of us at the time could have predicted the film's timelessness, or how it would slowly carve its way into the heart of Indian cinema." It's like witnessing a new generation open an old love letter when it comes back to the big screen. She said, "My heart is full."

The filmmaker stated that Umrao Jaan was more than just a movie; it was a trip into the spirit of a lost culture, a forgotten tehzeeb.

We made an effort to bring back the beauty of an age when love and desire were expressed in verse through her suffering, poetry, and grace. I had some incredibly talented actors who gave their roles a lot of weight, as well as Rekha, who lived Umrao Jaan and made it truly immortal.

Ali added that he is ecstatic that a brand-new generation will be able to experience a time and culture that is still very much a part of who we are because the movie is now back on the big screen.

Rekha plays Amiran, a young woman who was sold into a brothel and given the name Umrao Jaan, in the movie Umrao Jaan. The movie depicts her transformation into a well-known poet and courtesan in Lucknow. Umrao's life is characterized by love, tragedy, and adversity, particularly in her relationships with Faiz Ali and Nawab Sultan.

Additionally, the movie stars Naseeruddin Shah, Raj Babbar, Farooq Shaikh, Shaukat Azmi, and others.
