In spite of having produced some of the biggest blockbusters in Indian cinema and being one of the most prolific filmmakers there, Ram Gopal Varma has lost his way and is now producing low-quality films that aren't even being seen by a small number of his die-hard followers. He also began producing these terrible, seedy adult movies at one point in his career. Saree, one of those movies, premiered in theaters in April 2025.

On OTT, saree performs well

Surprisingly, the romantic thriller is currently available on Lionsgate Play and Aha and is doing really well, particularly on Aha. You may also stream RGV's Saree on OTTplay Premium if you didn't see it in theaters.

Returning to the movie, critics gave Saree a bad rap, and everyone made fun of RGV for the movie's offensive script and excessive storytelling. The story of Saree centers on a young woman who aspires to be an actress and wears a saree. A mad photographer sees her one day wearing a saree, falls in love with her, and begins to pursue her. He kidnaps her and begins torturing her because the situation has grown so dire. The remainder of the tale details how the female manages to break free of his grasp.

This is a simple story and did not have much emotion, but how  it was showcased and the adult content shown have helped the film on OTT. For some reason, a chunk of the younger audience and those who missed the film in theatres are streaming it quite a lot on Aha. The numbers are also great, and one of the sources close to the team has revealed that RGV’s Saree has clocked close to 50 million streaming minutes.

Saree is written and produced by RGV

This is not an ordinary number as there are no familiar Telugu faces in the film, and all those who are watching it are doing so only for the adult content and curiosity. The makers are quite happy that their film is finally getting its due and say it is a perfect watch for OTT.

Saree was directed by Giri Krishna Kamal and was written by Ram Gopal Varma himself. Aradhya Devi played the female lead in the film and went all out in terms of glamour. Satya Yadav played one of the leads in this film, which is a psychological thriller released on April 4, 2025. The film failed to lock its OTT partner for the longest time, and now that it has landed on OTT, everyone is watching it big time. Stay tuned for more.
