The upcoming film Raju Weds Rambai, a compelling new offering from ETV Win Originals, is set to make a significant impact upon its grand theatrical release on November 21st.
A Real Incident Forms the Heart of the Story
Producer Venu Udugula revealed the profound inspiration behind the film, stating that the script for Raju Weds Rambai is rooted in a real-life incident that occurred between the Khammam and Warangal districts.
Udugula confessed that he was deeply moved by the account. While cases of honor killings are tragically common, he noted that the specific atrocity detailed in this love story was unprecedented, making the narrative stand out instantly. Though the film tackles a serious, real event, Udugula assured audiences that the script was crafted with necessary cinematic drama and mainstream appeal, ensuring the movie remains entertaining. He emphasized that the film avoids a tragic conclusion, aiming instead to leave viewers with a positive and reflective feeling, hopefully prompting parents to view their daughters' love lives with greater empathy.
The Vision of Justice and Collaboration
Driven by a conviction that only he could do justice to the sensitive subject matter, Venu Udugula took on the role of producer.
Udugula also spoke about the technical aspects, including his decision to bring in Suresh Bobbili for music, citing their friendship and Bobbili's ability to deliver good music for a "raw and rustic script."
Casting, Chemistry, and the Filming Challenge
Finding the lead pair involved a meticulous process. While Akhil was quickly finalized as Raju, the team searched extensively for a heroine. They prioritized local talent, eventually selecting Tejaswi, a Telugu actress whose profile immediately impressed them. Workshops were conducted with the lead actors and local artists, helping Akhil and Tejaswi deliver natural, rooted performances as Raju and Rambai. Producer Rahul Mopidevi praised the leads, noting that Akhil, a boy from Warangal, effortlessly managed the Telangana accent, while Tejaswi, from Andhra Pradesh, perfected it.
The shooting process, conducted in the actual remote village where the incident took place, was arduous. Mopidevi shared tales of challenging logistics, including daily 35 km commutes, dealing with the rainy season, and even a bridge collapse that forced the 80-member crew to stay overnight in the remote location.
Ultimately, the producers believe this commitment to authenticity and performance will make Raju Weds Rambai a memorable cinematic experience. They are confident that, much like the iconic movies they cited, their film will make audiences reflect on the enduring power of love against social barriers.
