With an animated approach, Netflix is bringing viewers back to Hawkins. The streaming behemoth unveiled the first details for Stranger Things: Tales From '85, an animated spinoff set in the frigid winter months of 1985, at the Annecy Film Festival on Wednesday.

To the mid-'80s

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Stranger Things: Tales From '85 takes place between the second and third seasons of the original show. The animated program introduces a new face while bringing back old ones. Introducing Nikki, a tough new character with a mohawk and a no-nonsense demeanor. To confront unusual monsters and unravel a new paranormal mystery disturbing Hawkins, she joins forces with the usual suspects.

The Saturday morning nostalgia is combined with contemporary animation.

The concept was inspired by Saturday morning cartoons like Scooby-Doo, Masters of the Universe, and The Real Ghostbusters, according to showrunner Eric Robles. However, while the atmosphere is influenced by those vintage programs, the appearance is far more contemporary. Consider the combination of Arcane and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse's animation styles, along with eerie Goosebumps-style graphics.

Carlos Huante brings the frightening monsters to life, such as zombie pumpkins and a snow shark with teeth, while Meybis Ruiz Cruz created the character designs.

Upside Down Pictures, the Duffer Brothers' production business, serves as executive producer of this animated series, which was created by the creators of Stranger Things. They are accompanied by Hilary Leavitt and Eric Robles (Flying Bark Productions), as well as Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen (21 Laps).
