After receiving positive reviews during its theatrical release, the Malayalam movie Narivetta, which stars Tovino Thomas as police officer Varghese, was released on SonyLiv and OTTplay Premium in 2025. The majority of the movie, which is directed by Anuraj Manohar, centers around a tribal demonstration demanding land allocation and their fatal confrontation with the police. However, Basheer, a police officer, is also murdered. Let's see if Tovino Thomas' Varghese was successful in revealing the perpetrators of Basheer and the tribals' murders at the conclusion of Narivetta.

Narivetta story

Varghese, an impulsive and reluctant officer dispatched to Wayanad, the northernmost region of Kerala, where indigenous people have seized a woodland area, is followed by Narivetta. Basheer (played by Suraj Venjaramoodu), who is kind at heart, is Varghese's sole confidante among the other tough officers. More security forces (HAST) arrive, however, as the tribals continue to resist and the pressure on the State and the police to resolve the situation increases. Basheer goes along with a HAST member during a weapons search in the woods, but he doesn't come back. Only Varghese is bothered and brings it up with IPS officer Raghuram Keshavadas, who is portrayed by Tamil actor-director Cheran.

Narivetta ending explained

With the tribals being blamed, Basheer's corpse is discovered in the forest in a stunning turn of events. However, Varghese concludes that the HAST crew had murdered Basheer and tells Raghuram of his findings. However, he quickly discovers that the HAST team that murdered Basheer was in cahoots with Raghuram. As he attempts to rescue some of the tribals, Varghese emerges, battered and bruised, to see the police evacuation. Though official records indicate that only one tribal person was shot dead, there have been as many as five fatalities.

Struggling with his moral dilemma, Varghese informs the chief cop, but discovers that even the upper ranks are complicit in the scheme. However, Varghese discovers that efforts are being made to lay the blame on him as he turns against his own army. Varghese has no option but to turn whistleblower and send proof straight to the court.

Varghese thinks in the last seconds of Narivetta that he had become the voice of the oppressed. Varghese, who is unconcerned about the tribals' suffering, prominently advocates for their justice.
