The movie, which has a star-studded cast that includes SJ Suryah, Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Nithya Mene, Sathyaraj, Vadivelu, Hareesh Peradi, Kovai Sarala, and Sathyan, is produced by Thenandal Studio Limited as the banner's 100th production. In Mersal, Vijay performs three different roles. The story follows twin brothers who are separated at birth, one of whom becomes a magician and vigilante and the other a doctor who provides low-cost patient care. The music was composed by AR Rahman.
