The fact that the main and backup casts of HBO's upcoming Harry Potter TV series have been decided suggests that the network will adhere more closely to J.K. Rowling's novel series during its ten-year run. HBO created the series in partnership with Warner Bros. Television, Brontë Film & TV, and Heyday Films, with showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod serving as the artistic supervisors.
Harry Potter is played by Dominic McLaughlin
Dominic McLaughlin was selected to play the lead role of Harry Potter out of more than 32,000 applicants. He will play the role of the innocent wizard just beginning his studies at Hogwarts. Alastair Stout will play Harry's loyal best buddy Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton will play Hermione Granger, completing the famous trio..
John Lithgow will portray Dumbledore
The seasoned actor John Lithgow will play the part of Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, a wise and mysterious character at Hogwarts. Janet McTeer will portray the stern yet just Transfiguration instructor Professor Minerva McGonagall, who is also the head of Gryffindor House. With his numerous layers, the Potions Master Severus Snape is brought to life by Paapa Essiedu. Nick Frost will portray Rubeus Hagrid, the well-liked half-giant groundskeeper at Hogwarts.
Argus Filch, the grumpy caretaker of the castle, is played by Paul Whitehouse, while Professor Quirinus Quirrell, another member of the teaching staff, is played by Luke Thallon. Before this series, Whitehouse appeared in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, however some of his work was left out.
The Dursleys and the Malfoys were verified
Outside the institution, Bertie Carvel will play the role of Cornelius Fudge, the Minister of Magic. Johnny Flynn portrays Lucius Malfoy, the head of the Malfoy family, and Lox Pratt plays Draco Malfoy. Bel Powley plays Petunia, Daniel Rigby plays Vernon, and Amos Kitson plays Dudley, Harry's Muggle guardians.
Katherine Parkinson portrays Molly Weasley as a member of the Weasley family. Other students at Hogwarts include Leo Earley (Seamus Finnigan), Alessia Leoni (Parvati Patil), Sienna Moosah (Lavender Brown), and Rory Wilmot (Neville Longbottom). The character of Madam Hooch, the flying instructor, is played by Louise Brealey, while the wand maker Garrick Ollivander is portrayed by Anton Lesser.

The project switched from Max to HBO in the middle of 2024. The series began production at Leavesden Studios in July 2025 and is scheduled to debut in the United States in the beginning of 2027.
Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, David Heyman, Gardiner, Mylod, and J.K. Rowling are among the executive producers. The writing team includes Andy Greenwald, Bijan Sheibani, Ted Cohen, Martha Hillier, Ripley Parker, Sam Holcroft, and Gardiner, together with showrunner Josephine Gardiner.

On JioHotstar (OTTplay Premium), the Harry Potter online series will be available in India.
