Ajith Kumar, the popular actor, had one of the biggest blockbusters of his acting career with Mankatha. The Venkat Prabhu directorial, which was released in 2011, portrayed the star in a negative role. After the re-release fever hit the Tamil film industry amidst its ongoing dry phase, the Ajith fans and theatre owners have been requesting the makers of Mankatha to release the film once again in theatres. However, the viewers who wish to revisit the film right away, can always watch it on OTT.

Even though the reports on the Mankatha re-release have been doing rounds on social media these days, the makers have not officially confirmed the same yet. But here is the good news for the audiences, who are eagerly waiting to revisit Venkat Prabhu’s blockbuster action thriller. The much-loved film, which featured Ajith Kumar in the role of a corrupted police officer named ACP Vinayak Mahadevan IPS, is now available for streaming on Sun NXT and OTTPlay Premium.

The blockbuster action thriller film revolves around a corrupt police officer named ACP Vinayak Mahadevan IPS, who is suspended from the force for helping smuggler Faizal to escape. Later he joins forces with a group of young men who are planning to rob Rs. 500 crore betting money, which belongs to a gangster named Arumuga Chettiyar. Vinayak pretends to love Chettiyar’s daughter Sanjana, played by Trisha Krishan, in order to get near him. Meanwhile, another highly efficient police officer named ACP Prithviraj, the leader of Special Squad formed to track down the IPL bookies, tries to spoil Vinayak’s plans.

Mankatha, which hit the big screens on August 31, 2011, had a massive opening at the worldwide box office. The Ajith Kumar starrer emerged as the second all-time highest box office opener of that time, after Rajinikanth’s Enthiran. The Venkat Prabhu directorial, which completed 50 days at the theatres across the globe, reportedly collected over Rs. 100 crore within its lifetime run. The movie was ranked as the second all-time highest grosser of Tamil cinema, for quite some time.
