Because of legal disputes with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the upcoming picture Janaki v/s State of Kerala, which stars Suresh Gopi, is making headlines. The producers were ordered by the board to change the title and the name of the protagonist, Janaki, because it references a Hindu deity. As a result, its theatrical debut has been put on hold for the time being, which has resulted in several issues, such as strikes against CBFC by movie organizations such as FEFKA and AMMA.

However, because of its title, a Malayalam film has faced legal issues before. Let's examine the other films that had the same problem.

Malayalam movies that had issues because of their names and titles

S Durga

Because of its title, which also has a Hindu deity associated with it, this widely acclaimed film had to contend with legal challenges, even though it was shown at many film festivals and received acclaim for both its plot and performances. Later, the name was changed from Sexy Durga to S Durga in an effort to avoid further issues.

Higuita

This Suraj Venjaramoodu-starrer sparked a legal controversy because its title resembled the short story "Higuita" by the well-known author N S Madhavan. The film's director later confessed that the short story and screenplay had nothing in common. The problems were resolved over time. The movie was released under the same name and had its digital premiere on Saina Play.

Oru Bharatha Sarkar Ulppanam

The producers of this social drama were ordered by the censor board to change the title by removing the word "Bharatha." Although the board gave the film a clean certificate after the preview, director T V Renjith informed OTTplay that they were instructed to immediately delete the trailer and make this modification. They made the modifications as soon as possible in preparation for the movie's theatrical debut.

Token Number

In the wake of the debate around JSK, filmmaker Padmakumar spoke about a difficulty he had with his picture, Token Number. He stated that the board's Mumbai branch refused to let its release unless he changed the name of Janaki, one of the major characters.

Corona Dhavan

The title of the Lukman Avaran movie was initially Corona Jawan, but it was later changed in accordance with a ruling from the Central Board of Film Certification. The board observed that the title had to be removed from the film since Jawan is an alcoholic beverage in Kerala.
