Maalik Trailer: Rajkummar Rao Channels Raees Vibes with Grittier Action and Subtle Storytelling

The movie Maalik, starring Rajkummar Rao, has the same vibe as Shah Rukh Khan's 2017 picture, Raees, and its trailer is now available. The two films have a lot in common, but Maalik makes the obvious move of choosing violence as commercialization over item songs.

Maalik and Raees trailers are dominated by strong conversation

In Raees, Shah Rukh Khan said the quotable line, "Ammi kehti thi koi dhanda chota nahi hota aur dhande se bada koi dharam nahi hota," but Maalik moves the conversation to a son who is striving to impress his father in any way. "Majboor baap ka beta hai, qismat thi hamaari. But aapko majboot beta ka baap banna padega, yeh qismat hai aapki," is the line from the Maalik teaser that will make people pay attention to Rajkummar Rao.

Politics, gang conflicts, and a resolute policeman

There is a stubborn policeman who pursues the street-smart gangster relentlessly and changes the equation. Both Raees and Maalik are active in politics, travel in gangs, and are backed by a devoted partner. The only distinction is in how things are presented. Maalik refrained from being overly commercialized (there is a glimpse of Huma Qureshi's special appearance in the trailer) and instead focused on letting actions speak louder, whereas Shah Rukh Khan's film was more commercialized with the item song Laila Main Laila (featuring Sunny Leone). The trailer's final scene demonstrates this. Additionally, Maalik's fate seems to be similar to Raees'.

Concerning Maalik

Pulkit is the director of Maalik, which features Rajkummar Rao in the lead role of Maalik, Manushi Chhillar as Maalik's wife, and Prosenjit Chatterjee as the police (a role that Nawazuddin Siddiqui played in Raees). The movie is set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025, and features important performances by Huma Qureshi, Saurabh Shukla, and Swanand Kirkire.
