Rajkummar Rao plays the lead role in Maalik. In addition to Manushi Chhillar, Anshumaan Pushkar, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Huma Qureshi, Swanand Kirkire, and others are featured in the film. Kumar Taurani and Jay Shewakramani produced the film, which was directed by Pulkit. Pulkit and Jyotsana Nath are the authors of Maalik.

"This isn't the first time that someone has offered me an action film," Rajkummar said to Scroll.in when discussing Maalik. Previously, I had been asked to make such movies, but for one reason or another, I was unable to relate to the narrative. A movie cannot simply consist of a few scenes and action sequences. Maalik's narrative, which included a beginning, middle, and conclusion, was also a good one, he said.

The script, in Rao's opinion, was quite compelling, and he adored the protagonist's journey. He describes his persona as a lowly, helpless man who is instructed to act in a certain manner but then rebels and chooses to be his own master.
