Legal case hits Action Hero Biju 2 makers; co-producer claims ₹1.9 crore cheated

It appears that the Malayalam actor Nivin Pauly and the director Abrid Shine have found themselves in legal difficulty. According to Malayalam news outlets, the Kerala Police have charged the actor and the director with fraud in relation to the rights to the next film, Action Hero Biju 2. The case, which involves the alleged fraud of Rs 1.90 crore from the complainant, has been filed under non-bailable offenses.

Nivin Pauly, Abrid Shrine's case

The Reporter news channel has reported that a police complaint has been lodged against Nivin Pauly and Abrid Shine, the actor and director of the 2015 Malayalam film Action Hero Biju.

The Thalayolaparambu police in Kottayam district, Kerala, has filed the FIR under non-bailable offenses. PS Shamnas, the co-producer of Mahaveeryar, which was also a collaboration between the well-known actor and director, is the complainant. He claimed that he was denied the rights to the film Action Hero Biju 2, and as a result, the case was brought. According to the FIR, the news station said that he paid approximately Rs 1.95 crore for the rights to Action Hero Biju 2.

However, at a later date, without disclosing this, the movie's international distribution rights were sold to a third party for Rs 5 crore. As per the FIR, Shamnas paid Rs 2 crore in advance to Nivin Pauly's film production firm, Pauly Jr Pictures. According to the FIR, the complainant incurred a loss of Rs 1.90 crore.

In contrast, Abrid Shrine informed Asianet News that he will assist with the inquiry but that he is not aware of the specifics of the case. He chose not to discuss the matter in public. In the meantime, the matter has not received a response from Nivin Pauly.

Biju, the Action Hero 2

Eight years after the first movie, in 2024, Action Hero Biju, the next Malayalam film, was revealed. Nivin Pauly played a police officer in Action Hero Biju, which focused on the numerous cases he handled at the police station on a daily basis. Abrid Shine is back in the director's chair for the sequel. The movie and its protagonist gained popularity. OTTplay Premium's JioHotstar is hosting the live streaming of Action Hero Biju.

In contrast, Nivin Pauly has a lot of movies in development. The poster for one of his upcoming films, Sarvam Maya, was just unveiled.
