In the romantic drama Lahoriye, which was released the next year in 2017, Sargun Mehta and Amrinder Gill reunited after collaborating on Love Punjab, a family film from 2016. Set during the historic India-Pakistan partition period, this Punjabi film tells a tale of everlasting love. Against the backdrop of this important time in history, Sargun brings Ameeran to life. Lahoriye is finally launching its digital debut on Chuapal and OTTplay Premium in June 2025 after eight arduous years.

What's the plot of Lahoriye?

The Punjabi romance drama introduces Kikkar Singh, a young Sikh determined man, and Ameeran, a Muslim free-spirited woman, who find love in each other despite coming from different family backgrounds and religions. While Kikkar belongs from Punjab, Ameeran is from Lahore.

However, Kikkar and Ameeran's happiness gets shattered by the sudden partition, a time when India and Pakistan were getting divided. This terrible event forces Kikkar and Ameeran apart, and they are separated by the chaos and violence that ensued.

The Punjabi romance film won 16 coveted awards in various categories, including Best Actor at the PTC Punjabi Film Awards in 2018. The creators of Lahoriye claim that they came up with the concept while shooting Love Punjab exclusively.

Love Punjab was filmed close to the border. The director was informed by a close acquaintance, according to several news sources, that "Our farm was close to the border and a wire was drawn to separate the area from each other." The soldier would accompany us when we went farming. Sometimes, people from over the border would invite us over for tea or lassi. Ambardeep Singh, the director, came up with the concept of making Lahoriye after hearing this.
