Kussh S Sinha Promises a Unique Experience with Nikita Roy, Unbothered by Clash with Kajol’s Maa

With the film Nikita Roy, Kussh S Sinha, the son of actor Shatrughan Sinha, is ready to begin his career in Bollywood as a director after several years of working as an assistant director. His sister, actor Sonakshi Sinha, is the lead in the movie, along with Arjun Rampal and Paresh Rawal.
The movie is set to hit theaters on June 27, which is the same day as Kajol's Maa, and its 'unique and fresh' material has already created a buzz for the trailer. Kussh S. Sinha discussed his experience as a first-time director, working with Paresh and Arjun, and disclosed in an exclusive interview with Hindustan Times that he is not at all intimidated by the conflict with Maa.
Kussh on being a director and giving something new to the audience
Kussh discussed his experience as a first-time director and confessed that he put a lot of effort into his first film. "Being a director comes with its own set of challenges, suddenly you become in charge of a lot of things together, which when you are an AD, you don't have to look at," he said as he continued to discuss his journey. Other experts help in creating a decent movie as well. Since we were ready for unexpected difficulties, it went well, and maybe we were fortunate.
Kussh said he wanted to provide the audience something fresh with Nikita Roy, saying, "When we enter any industry and want to make a name for ourselves, I believe that unless we do something new, how will people recognize us?" There are two options: either create a romantic movie that is superior to others, or provide something fresh to the audience so that they may learn about your work and believe that it is worth their time. Thus, our movie has elements of several genres. Another aspect of the screenplay that I liked was that all of the characters in the movie are well-supported and motivated in their actions. The movie isn't mindless. For this reason, my first film was Nikita Roy, which features a female protagonist facing up against an outsized gray figure like Paresh Rawal's.
Regarding criticism of Bollywood's formulaic content trend
Speaking about his directorial debut during a period when Bollywood is facing criticism for its predictable material, Kussh said, "With all humility, people today are saying that Hindi film industry is now making stale content or complaining that there's nothing new, but we didn't follow a formula." We knew that a mixed-genre movie would allow us to provide something fresh, so we gave it to the public. Because the teaser itself alludes to the supernatural, horror, and suspense genres, we put a lot of effort into creating something novel and original.
Regarding industry realities and box office figures
Kussh acknowledged that box office figures do have an impact on him, saying, "My father has been in the business for many years, so we viewed his career outside as viewers and for Sonakshi's also for that matter. Therefore, box office numbers do count. It's important to remember that someone else has also put their intellect and money into the movie. Therefore, we must be courteous, but everyone in the film industry understands that the public controls the box office, not us. Given that moviegoers have a lot of options, it should do OK if we produce the picture on a fair budget, of course. We bear in mind that, as the saying goes in Hollywood, budgets fail, not movies. However, I cannot worry about anything that is beyond my control.
When Maa and Nikita Roy clashed
In reference to the box office rivalry between Maa and Nikita Roy, Kussh stated that it doesn't bother him and continued, "I am sure Maa is coming and that's also a big film backed by Ajay Sir and starring Kajol ma'am. It features Vishal Furia, one of the best directors in the horror genre. But no, we are quite certain that our movie will succeed on its own merits. Because Maa is in a completely different place once more, we are not in competition with it. From the beginning, it has a stronger horror element. Our genre is distinct. Despite being an inexplicable mystery from the other world, I wouldn't categorize it as horror.
On recruiting Arjun Rampal and Paresh Rawal
"I think I am very fortunate to get Paresh sir on board," Kussh said, explaining how he cast Paresh and Arjun. We met with him twice. We first went to see him to explain the movie's plot, and then we went to see him again to describe his character as a spiritual guru who goes by the name Amar Dev. He obviously liked the character when he heard it. I doubt he wants to keep performing the same thing over and over because he is such a brilliant actor. He probably wants to accomplish things that highlight his skill and do it credit. Therefore, I believe I was fortunate, and it gave me a lot more self-assurance.
He continued, "We were in discussions with Arjun sir, but even after we arrived in London for the filming, we still didn't have him on board. Thankfully, a few days prior to the shoot day when we needed him to perform his role, he joined us, and everything worked out.
