One of the most anticipated movies of 2025 is Coolie, which features Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna Akkineni, and Upendra in leading roles and is directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The film is slated for release on August 14, 2025, and its pre-release business is generating waves with record-breaking figures.

The foreign rights were sold for a record ₹84 crore, as previously covered by OTTplay. We now have information regarding the Telugu rights. The bidding for these rights was fierce, with bids coming from some of the biggest Tollywood producers as well as Akkineni Nagarjuna himself.

According to the latest update, the makers of Kuberaa, Sunil Narang, has acquired the Telugu rights, along with star producers Dil Raju and Suresh Babu. A major share of the investment has come from Sunil Narang of Asian Cinemas, who last produced Kuberaa with Dhanush. The Kuberaa team was not initially in the race, but after the film’s massive success, they entered with a higher bid and secured the deal.

Coolie has generated massive buzz and has been bagged for a record price of ₹46 crore — the highest ever for a Tamil film dubbed in Telugu. With Nagarjuna playing a key role and recently scoring a hit with Kuberaa, his revived market has further elevated the film’s hype in the Telugu states.

Nagarjuna plays the main villain in Coolie

In Coolie, which has music by Anirudh, Nagarjuna will play the role of the main villain. The rights were further sought as a result of the success of Lokesh Kanagaraj's previous two films, Vikram and Leo, in Telugu. Due to Rajinikanth and Lokesh collaborating for the first time, Coolie has a lot of hype worldwide and is predicted to be released in a record number of theatres.
