Kannappa’s Box Office Blitz: Opening Weekend Figures and 2025 Telugu Film Rankings
5 months ago | 5 Views
The Vishnu Manchu-starring Kannappa by Mukesh Kumar Singh has everything in its favor. It features a star-studded cast that includes Sarathkumar, Mohanlal, Akshay Kumar, and Prabhas. New Zealand's stunning landscapes are presented as an untouched part of south India. And most importantly, Vishnu's tenacity and courage, who was certain that Friday would be his day.
The problem is that Vishnu had previously set his sights too high and made similar statements. The performer attempted to raise the bar, whether in Voter, Mosagallu, or Ginna, but it never really worked. The mistrust was compounded by the failure of his most recent works, and he even confessed lately that 'no Tollywood director' would be willing to collaborate with him on Kannappa.
The box office results for Kannappa during its debut weekend
However, Vishnu certainly demonstrated that the skeptics were mistaken. Ever since the movie's release, the audience has continuously highlighted the several problems that Kannappa still has. The first half of the movie is widely agreed to be a test of your patience, while the second half is fantastic. Even so, Sacnilk estimates that the picture made ₹23.75 crore net in India during its first weekend.
After having difficulty getting significant roles in films for some time, Vishnu has achieved a personal record with these figures. With a global revenue of ₹24 lakh, Ginna was his final movie. The highly publicized Mosagallu lived up to its name and earned ₹1.65 crore globally. The audience may have been drawn to the theaters to see Kannappa with Prabhas in a thrilling cameo, as Vishnu himself acknowledges, but it also appears that Vishnu has ultimately changed course for himself.
The position of Kannappa in movies made in 2025
The opening weekend numbers for Kannappa are amazing, but the movie still has a ways to go before it can establish itself or even break even, since it was produced on a low budget of around ₹200 crore. Despite the possibility that it may prove to be a letdown over time, Ram Charan's Game Changer nonetheless achieved a net opening weekend of ₹88.5 crores in India, which is still unmatched by any Telugu movie. With its opening of Rs 60.5 crore, Venkatesh's Sankranthiki Vasthunam is the second-highest.
| Movie name | Opening weekend numbers (net India) |
|---|---|
| Game Changer | ₹88.5 crore |
| Sankranthiki Vasthunam | ₹60.5 crore |
| Daaku Maharaaj | ₹50.4 crore |
| HIT: The Third Case | ₹41.9 crore |
| Thandel | ₹36.35 crore |
| Mad Square | ₹25.25 crore |
| Kannappa | ₹23.75 crore |
| Court | ₹14.8 crore |
Balakrishna's Daaku Maharaaj made ₹50.5 crores in its first day, whereas Nani's HIT: The Third Case brought in ₹41.9 crores. Thandel, which starred Naga Chaitanya, earned Rs 36.35 crore during its debut weekend. The ensemble movie MAD Square by Narne Nithiin earned ₹25.25 crore, barely surpassing Kannappa. But Priyadarshi's popular movie Court, which earned ₹14.8 crore, has been surpassed by Kannappa's opening figures.
Considering history, Vishnu and the film still face an uphill battle in maintaining attendance throughout the week and holding viewers' attention until the picture is in the clear, even if this still leaves Kannappa in a favorable position. Can he accomplish that? Only time will tell.
