In an exclusive interview, Kalyani Priyadarshan shared her initial hesitation about taking on the role of Chandra, a superhero with extraordinary abilities like super speed and flight. “When they pitched the script, I wondered, ‘Am I the right fit?’” she admitted. The role demanded a unique blend of physical prowess, emotional depth, and an aura she hadn’t explored before. Yet, her passion for the character’s potential won her over. “I couldn’t say no,” she said with a smile, describing her decision as “selfish” but driven by excitement for the project’s bold vision.

Kalyani’s preparation was intense, involving martial arts training to embody Chandra’s warrior-like persona. Her transformation from the relatable, girl-next-door roles to a commanding action hero is a testament to her versatility and dedication.

A Young Team with Big Dreams

Directed by Dominic Arun, known for Tharangam, Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra boasts a youthful cast and crew, including Naslen, Chandu Salimkumar, and Arun Kurian. Dominic’s goal was simple yet ambitious: “I just want to tell a cool story in a cool way.” This vibrant energy permeated the set, creating a collaborative atmosphere where innovation thrived. His confidence in releasing the film alongside heavyweights like Mohanlal’s Hridayapoorvam and Fahadh Faasil’s Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira during Onam speaks volumes about his belief in the project.

Kalyani is mindful of the comparisons to global blockbusters like Avengers or Dune. “We’ve done our best within our means,” she noted, urging audiences to appreciate Lokah as a Malayalam film with its own identity.
