Films set in a dystopian future are dime-a-dozen in Hollywood, but it’s not really a subject that’s oft explored in Indian cinema. There are a few like Aditya 369, Matrubhoomi A Nation without women, Jil Jung Juk and Kalki 2898 AD. Kaliyugam, a Tamil-Telugu bilingual, directed by debutant Pramodh Sundar was the latest entry in this rather short list. Released in theatres on May 9, the film, starring Shraddha Srinath and Kishore in the lead, opened to middling reviews and is now set to drop on OTT.

Kaliyugam, which released in Telugu as Kaliyugam 2064 is now headed to OTT. The film’s been picked up by Sun NXT and will begin streaming on the platfom from July 11, 2025. You can access the film and many more titles on Sun NXT with an OTTplay Premium subscription. The Pramodh directorial also stars Iniyan Subramani, Asmal, Harry, Mithun, David Santhosh, among others. Pramodh shares writing credits with Karthik Gunasekaran, Athreya and Karkavi, with Sivaram Kondasani on board for the Telugu dialogues. Kaliyugam has music by Dawn Vincent and cinematography by K Ramcharan.

Produced by KS Ramakrishna and K Ramcharan for RK International and Prime Cinemas respectively, with Siddharth Swayamboo as co-producer, Kaliyugam was set in 2064, a time in which basic survival needs like food and water are scarce. According to an official synopsis, Kaliyugam is a post-apocalyptic psychological thriller, which explores survival, morality and human resilience in a world ravaged by catastrophic events.

The film’s set up and the performances by the lead cast, especially Shraddha were lauded, but critics pointed out that Pramodh’s film never really rose to its full potential. Kaliyugam joins recent releases like Madras Matinee, The Verdict, Lal Salaam, Jinn – The Pet, Nesippaya, among other Tamil titles on the platform.
