Suresh Gopi's most recent Malayalam film, Janaki v/s State of Kerala, has caused confusion in its release process because the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) expressed reservations about the title and the name of the main character. According to recent accounts, the Kerala High Court has questioned the logic behind the changes that the CBFC has requested.

The remarks made by the Kerala HC on the Janaki v/s State of Kerala case

The court questioned why the teaser for Janaki v/s State of Kerala had been approved by the same board that had also banned the film's publication during a hearing on June 30. It also asked the CBFC why, considering that other movies have been named after gods, the movie was not permitted to use the title "Janaki." The High Court has also instructed the DSGI to provide a comprehensive account of why the name is prohibited in the film. The court will review the case on July 2.

In the interim, film organizations such FEFKA and AMMA started their strike today (June 30) in response to the CBFC's request that Anupama Parameswaran's protagonist be given a different name and title.

The creators of JSK refused to make any changes

Since the movie's title is Janaki, which is the name of a Hindu deity, the Central Board of Film Certification has refused to allow its release. The producers have purportedly been told to make the necessary modifications as soon as possible in order to prevent the movie's theatrical release from being pushed back. The board's conduct prevented this movie from being shown in theaters on June 27.

The producers then stated at a news conference that they would not be making any changes and will take legal action against the CBFC's action. "This affects many people's hard work, schedules, and money," said the creators. The film's director, Pravin Narayanan, stated that the over 90 cuts recommended by the CBFC would have a significant impact on the story and the movie as a whole.
