The Central Board of Film Certification has been making headlines for some time due to concerns about the title and main character of Suresh Gopi's most recent Malayalam movie, Janaki v/s State of Kerala. In reaction to the CBFC's action, the producers have now stated that they have no intention of changing the situation or pursuing legal remedies.

Manufacturers opt to leave JSK alone

At a press conference in Kochi, the director and producers spoke about their perspective on the ongoing legal issues surrounding the film's June 27 theatrical release delay. They said they had not been given a written justification for the CBFC's directive to change the title and character's name, Janaki. The producers said, "Prior to the film's production, we were not provided with any guidelines. Many people's efforts, time, and money are impacted by this." They further stated that the billboards had already been released and that the advertising campaign was about to wrap up. These modifications will now cost manufacturers millions of rupees..

The film's director, Pravin Narayanan, claimed that the over 90 changes recommended by the CBFC will have a major impact on the plot and the actors involved. The filmmakers have also revealed that on Thursday, a review panel will watch the film and analyze the issue.

What is the controversy between Janaki and the State of Kerala?

Because the word "Janaki" is suggestive of a Hindu god, the movie's release has been denied by the Central Board of Film Certification. The board has voiced concerns about the use of the name in the title and throughout the film. In order to avoid delaying the film's theatrical release, recent rumors suggest that the producers have been instructed to make the necessary modifications to both of them as soon as feasible. The board's decision prevented this film from hitting theaters.

FEFKA General Secretary B Unnikrishnan questioned the rationale for the CBFC's opposition to a media outlet, considering that it would stifle the creative license of many filmmakers. Additionally, he has stated that his group will not hesitate to protest the board's ruling.
