Lionsgate has just unveiled the trailer for Aziz Ansari's wild new comedy, Good Fortune, and it's unlike anything we've seen before. The film dives into a whimsical world of fate, life swaps, and an utterly charming, albeit "inept," angel played by none other than Keanu Reeves. The trailer promises a feel-good film that blends high-concept fantasy with grounded, relatable humor, all set to hit theaters on October 17, 2025.
A Heavenly Intervention Gone Wrong
The premise of Good Fortune is pure comedic gold. Aziz Ansari stars as Arj, a down-on-his-luck gig worker struggling to make ends meet. His life takes a bizarre turn when a low-tier "budget guardian angel" named Gabriel (Keanu Reeves) decides to intervene. Gabriel, in an attempt to teach Arj that wealth isn't the answer to his problems, orchestrates a life swap, trading Arj’s humble existence with that of a wealthy, clueless venture capitalist named Jeff, played by Seth Rogen.

However, the plan backfires spectacularly. Instead of realizing money doesn't buy happiness, Arj absolutely loves his new life and refuses to switch back. As a result, Gabriel loses his angelic wings and is cast down to Earth, where he’s forced to navigate a human world he doesn't understand. The trailer shows a hilarious series of events as Gabriel, now human, teams up with the newly impoverished Jeff (Rogen) to convince Arj to reverse the swap. The combination of Reeves's deadpan delivery and Rogen's signature bumbling charm promises a comedic duo for the ages.
The Perfect Cast for a Timely Comedy
The casting for Good Fortune is a stroke of genius. Keanu Reeves, with his naturally calm and sincere demeanor, is perfectly suited to play a well-meaning but naive angel. His performance as Gabriel, who, according to a recent review from its Toronto Film Festival premiere, becomes a chain-smoker addicted to nicotine, is already being hailed as a comedic standout. Aziz Ansari, who also wrote and directed the film, brings his sharp wit and observational humor, while Seth Rogen adds his familiar brand of hilarious chaos. The film also features a talented ensemble cast, including Keke Palmer as Arj's love interest and Sandra Oh as Gabriel's angelic boss.
The film's plot, which touches on themes of wealth inequality, the gig economy, and what truly constitutes a "good fortune," feels incredibly timely. In a world where many feel trapped by financial struggles, the idea of an angel messing with our lives to teach a lesson is a fun and imaginative way to explore these complex issues. Will this heavenly chaos turn into the feel-good comedy of the year? The combination of a strong premise, a fantastic cast, and a heartwarming message makes it a very strong contender.
