From Hansal Mehta to Shimit Amin

Hansal Mehta, celebrated for his sensitive storytelling in films like Shahid and the acclaimed series Scam 1992, was originally attached to the film from its announcement in 2021. Despite initial excitement, Mehta had to exit the project owing to his involvement in multiple other movies, which created a scheduling conflict that hindered his availability for Captain India. Discussions and negotiations around the directorial role then saw Abhishek Kapoor considered briefly before Shimit Amin finalized his role as director.

Shimit Amin is known for his impactful work in Bollywood, including hits such as Ab Tak Chappan and Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year. His return to directing after sixteen years marks a notable comeback with a high-profile project like Captain India.

Production and Filming Plans

The producers of Captain India, Ronnie Screwvala and Harman Baweja, have prepared thoroughly for the shoot. Locations will include India and Morocco, with teams already having completed location recce in Morocco. The shooting schedule is planned from March to July 2026, aiming to deliver a polished and gripping cinematic portrayal of this heroic mission.
