Genelia Deshmukh’s Comeback Story: Grateful to Telugu Film Industry
4 months ago | 5 Views
After a hiatus of 13 years, Genelia Deshmukh makes her comeback to Telugu cinema in Junior. She discusses her role, advancements in Telugu film, dream roles, and quitting the industry at the height of her career. The transcript is as follows:
After so many years, what persuaded you to accept a role in a Telugu movie?
Three years ago, Junior approached me, but to be honest, I had no desire to perform. The producers kept coming to me over and over, and my husband, Ritesh, advised me to give the narrative at least some consideration. I didn't hesitate to agree to the movie because I was immediately pulled into the plot and my persona as soon as I began to hear the story.
What about your role in Junior?
I portray a contemporary woman with a unique history who sticks to her principles. Everyone will be shocked to see me in this new guise, even though I can't say too much, because I've never played such a role before. This part in Junior is precisely what I've been searching for, and it's the ideal return for me in Telugu film.

Working with the likes of Kireeti Reddy, the young debutant?
Working with young performers is always enjoyable for me. They revitalize the sets. As a trained actor, Kireeti's performance shines through in his fight sequences and dancing. He arrived well-prepared because his ambition is to work in the movies. The second half features some really poignant moments, and the little kid has performed admirably.
How do you feel about young heroines like Sreeleela?
She is a fantastic actor, dancer, and performer. Sreeleela has consistently produced all of those traits, which are seldom found in one individual. In the days ahead, she's definitely someone to keep an eye on. I had a great time working with her on the Junior session.

About the hit music of Junior?
The legendary DSP has been around for a long time. Bommarillu, the biggest smash of my career, was given to me by him, and in Telugu films, he's still consistently producing hit after hit. Devi has nailed his music for Junior, which is one of the film's greatest strengths.
The pinnacle of your career saw you leave Telugu cinema. Do you have any regrets?
No way. Since a young age, I have worked and performed with all the greatest stars. The decision I made to leave when the time was right was because everything happens for a purpose. I'm back now that the circumstances and timing are favorable. I don't have any complaints about my profession.

How does it feel to see Telugu cinema go places?
I'm brimming with pride. Everything in my life has come from Telugu film. I'm really proud of how material is being produced here right now. My co-stars, Jr NTR, Ram Charan, and Allu Arjun, are megastars and have gained international recognition. It makes me so happy to see Tollywood making progress.
Are there any roles you're still hoping to perform?
I've played a lot of different roles in a lot of movies. I'm willing to play any kind of position now that I've begun my second innings. Even if it's just a cameo, the character needs to be memorable. I'm now really up for taking on difficult assignments.
Finally, why should we watch Junior?
From the promos, you might feel it’s just a regular commercial entertainer. But the college episode ends within the first half-hour, and then a gripping family drama takes over that will hold your attention till the end. As the entire film revolves around my character, I’m even more excited to see how the audience reacts to my comeback.
