We have already witnessed a fair number of successes and failures in Tamil cinema during the first five months of 2025. The Tamil movie Thug Life, which has generated the greatest buzz and excitement, is set to premiere in theaters this week. The movie, which features Kamal Haasan and is directed by Mani Ratnam, is generating a lot of buzz. Nonetheless, there are some intriguing releases this week that you can stream on OTT and see in theaters. The releases for this week are listed below.

Tourist Family - JioHotstar (June 2)

Abishan Jeevinth makes his directorial debut with this film, which stars Sasikumar, Simran, and others. The plot of the comedy family drama centers on a Sri Lankan refugee family that relocates to Tamil Nadu in the hopes of a better life. Million Dollar Studios produced the film, which has Sean Roldan's music and an ensemble cast that features MS Bhaskar, Ilango Kumaravel, Ramesh Thilak, Bagavathi Perumal, Mithun Jai Shankar, Kamalesh Jagan, and others. In terms of box office revenue, the film surpassed Sundara Pandian and Kutti Pulli to become Sasikumar's biggest success to date.

Theatres of Thug Life (June 5)

Gangster Without a doubt, one of the most awaited Tamil movies of the year is Life. After their legendary 1987 picture Nayakan, Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam are reunited in this film, which is advertised as a gangster actioner. In addition to Simbu, Trisha, Joju George, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and others, the movie stars other actors as well. The movie's score was composed by AR Rahman.

SunNXT (June 6) – Lal Salaam

Aishwarya Rajinikanth is the director of the 2024 Tamil film Lal Salaam, which stars Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth in the key roles and is a sports action drama. Rajinikanth has a lengthy cameo in the movie. Set against a backdrop of a tense socio-political environment, the Lal Salaam narrative centers on two friends who are separated by fate and ideology. Thambi Ramaiah, KS Ravikumar, Jeevitha, Senthil, Livingston, Vignesh, and others. The movie, which is supported by Lyca Productions, has music by AR Rahman.

The JioHotstar streaming platform is currently showing the Heart Beat S2 series.

With almost 100 episodes in its first season, Heart Beat is a Tamil medical drama series. The series is situated in a multi-specialty hospital and follows the daily lives of the physicians, nurses, and other staff members, both at work and at home. Deepak Sundarrajan wrote and directed the series, which stars Anumol, Deepa Balu, Tourist Family celebrity Yogalakshmi, and many others. Every week, there will be four new episodes released.

Theatres: Madras Matinee (June 6)

Karthikeyan Mani is the writer and director of Madras Matinee, which features Sathyaraj, Kaali Venkat, Roshini Haripriyan, and more actors. The plot of the movie centers on an elderly science fiction author who is tasked by his caretaker with writing about the average person. A chain of dramatic events occurs when the author accepts the challenge and writes the tale of a motorist.
