In 2025, several Tamil films, such Tourist Family, Kudumbasthan, and Dragon, struck a chord with moviegoers, while others, such Kingston and Yamakaathaghi, took a different tack in their narrative.
2025 promises to be an interesting year as well, with releases from nearly every star, including Suriya's Retro, Ajith Kumar's back-to-back films Vidaamuyarchi and Good Bad Ugly, Kamal Haasan's Thug Life, Rajinikanth's Coolie, and many more movies like Idly Kadai, Madharasi, and others. Retro – Netflix (May 30)

Suriya plays the main character in the Tamil romantic action-drama film Retro. With Joju George, Pooja Hegde, Nasser, Jayaram, and others in the cast, the movie is a period drama directed by Karthik Subbaraj of Petta fame. It tells the story of a gangster's adopted son who wants to turn away from his violent past and start anew with his lover. The score was composed by Santhosh Narayanan.
OTTplay Premium (May 30) - Nizharkudai

The Tamil film Nizharkudai is headlined by Thenali actor Devayani and was written and directed by Shiva Arumugam, a filmmaker. The family story, which centers around the emotional connection between a caregiver and a kid, revolves around a family where the young parents are trying to relocate overseas. The child's emotional support is, however, tested when the parents pursue their American dream. In addition to others, the movie also features Vijjith and Kanmani Manoharan in its cast.

In the air An upcoming web series called Thedinen is said to be a romantic drama. There will be four episodes, each lasting twenty minutes. The movie, which marks Alvin Deva's debut as a writer and director, is a musical romantic drama that is anticipated to delve into the nuances of love and star Madhan Kumar, Shivram, Pooja, and Haripriya in the major roles. The relationship between two couples from different backgrounds, each with their own set of issues, will be examined in the series.
Family of Tourists - JioHotstar (June 2)

Tourist Family is a Tamil family drama directed by first-time filmmaker Abishan Jeevinth. Simran and Sasikumar, a Sri Lankan Tamil couple, are the stars of the movie. They and their two sons leave the economic hardship in Sri Lanka in search of a better life in India. The movie follows the family's attempts to integrate into their new community without arousing suspicion and win people over with their kindness. Ramesh Thilak, Elango Kumaravel, MS Bhaskar, Mithun Jaishankar, Kamalesh Jegan, and others are also in the movie.
OTTplay Premium (June 6) – Lal Salaam

Aishwarya Rajinikanth is the director of the 2024 sports drama picture Lal Salaam. Vikranth and Vishnu Vishal star in the movie, with Rajinikanth making a protracted cameo appearance. Set against the backdrop of a tense socio-political scene, the narrative centers on two friends who are separated by ideology and circumstances, and features music by AR Rahman.
