Despite the fact that the 'real' summer in India is about to end, many have called this the summer of blockbusters. However, for Indian movies, summer starts when the Indian Premier League concludes and the big movies may be released once more. June through August has always been the big release summer in Hollywood. This year, this shared blockbuster summer is starting off with a family-friendly atmosphere in two similar yet different legacy films.

Mainstream Hindi films for children

It has been three years since Aamir Khan was last seen on screen. He hasn't been in a film aimed at families and children in more than ten years. However, Sitaare Zameen Par fulfills both of those criteria. It follows the journey of a somewhat bothersome basketball coach who matures (perhaps a bit too late, in my opinion) while coaching a group of children with special needs. It has all the makings of a successful movie: a heartwarming story, a famous actor, and mostly favorable public opinion.

In recent years, Hindi cinema has seen few films with big superstars aimed at younger viewers. Therefore, it's truly excellent news that an Aamir Khan has come with such a film. One of the reasons Sitaare Zameen Par is such a pleasure to watch is that a 7-year-old or a 70-year-old may easily enjoy it. Such movies are less common among the big-budget Bollywood releases. Combine that with the legacy of Taare Zameen Par, and you have a winning mix of promise and credibility. The crucial question that remains is whether it will be constructed properly. The fate of this movie depends on the execution.

Elio brings a fresh perspective

However, it is evident that the distributors and exhibitors are anticipating an Aamir performance on June 20, when Sitaare Zameen Par hits theaters. This is clear from the fact that no other major Hindi release is scheduled for that day. Elio does, however, have one release. The plot of the Hollywood animated film centers on a boy who unintentionally becomes Earth's representative in an alien society. Elio offers originality, something audiences have been clamoring for, since it comes from the only big Hollywood studio that isn't continually cranking out live-action remakes and sequels.

Like Sitaare Zameen Par, Elio is an underdog tale. Using Pixar's unique selling proposition of heartwarming storytelling combined with spellbinding visuals, this movie is aimed at an even younger demographic. Some argue that Elio might be the next Wall-E or Inside Out. However, perhaps it could simply attempt to be Elio, an original narrative at a time when everything is a remake, an adaptation, or the twenty-seventh reimagining of a book that was influenced by a medieval fairy tale. Regardless of how skillfully you create those movies, the same dozen narratives continue to circulate in our minds. Elio has the authority to alter that.

We haven't had a weekend at the movies that's focused on families and children in ages. Aamir Khan and Pixar do this on June 20. Both movies might have their fair share of imperfections. Speaking of originality, Sitaare is a remake, which brings me back to my previous tirade. Additionally, Elio seems a bit too template-based for Pixar, as if it were made in PowerPoint. However, if the movies are excellent, even these faults may be overlooked in the end. For the time being, we will take comfort in the efforts alone and wish that their accomplishment will be seen on June 20.

In July, the grownups assume control. The large-scale spectacle of horror, superheroes, slick action, and monsters will be revived in the cinemas by a flurry of releases, including Jurassic World Rebirth, Superman, Fantastic Four First Steps to War 2, and Thama Back Home. Therefore, let's take pleasure in this small moment of innocence before the lunacy.
