A number of Malayalam movies are debuting on OTT this week. One of them is Detective Ujjwalan, the most recent movie starring Dhyan Sreenivasan. The movie is currently available on Netflix.

Netflix's Detective Ujjwalan

Netflix just confirmed that they have purchased the digital rights of Detective Ujjwalan. From midnight on July 11, 2025, the suspenseful investigative thriller became available on the well-known OTT platform. Sophia Paul created the movie under the banner of her production company, Weekend Blockbusters. Their prior works, such Minnal Murali, RDX, and Kondal, may also be seen on the same OTT platform. In the interim, there have been no Malayalam movies released on Netflix. Another current movie that made its digital debut on the streaming service was Officer on Duty, which stars Kunchacko Boban.

Detective Ujjwalan debuted in cinemas in May, together with Tovino Thomas's Narivetta and Sreenath Bhasi's Azadi. Azadi is available on Manorama Max and Sun NXT, while Narivetta started streaming on Sony LIV and OTTplay Premium on July 11.

Details of the plot and cast of Detective Ujjwalan

Plaachikkaavu, a supposedly tranquil neighborhood, is dominated by a lingering 'Boogeyman.' Local investigator Ujjwalan is accompanied by a group of police officers and the locals as he attempts to apprehend the murderer while a notorious adversary is on a killing spree. The film's central themes are how Plaachikkaavu manages to break free from the Boogeyman's curse and whether Ujjwalan will be able to solve the mystery of the killer.

The film's captivating storyline compensates for the paucity of emotionally charged moments, according to OTTplay's assessment. The Dhyan Sreenivasan film is a fun watch for anyone who enjoys a nice investigative thriller with a humorous twist.

Indraneel Gopeekrishnan and Rahul Ghave, two newcomers, directed this picture. The screenplay for Detective Ujjwalan was written by the directors themselves. The supporting cast includes Siju Wilson, Rony David, Kottayam Nazeer, Seema G. Nair, Ameen Nihaal Nizam, Kalabhavan Navas, Shahubas, Nirmal Palazhy, Josy Sijo, and Nibraz Noushad.
