Decal Releasing has unveiled the first trailer for The Occupant, a tense survival thriller directed by Hugo Keijzer. The film mixes icy isolation with unsettling psychological twists. Ella Balinska, known for Run Sweetheart Run and Charlie’s Angels, stars in the movie, which is set to arrive on August 8, 2025. It promises a tough story about endurance, paranoia, and the strange voice on the radio that draws the protagonist in.

Balinska plays Abby, a determined yet desperate geologist. She takes a high-paying, risky mining job deep in Northern Georgia’s snowy wilderness. Her main reason is personal: she needs the money for her sister’s experimental cancer treatment. But everything changes when her helicopter crashes in a remote, frozen area. With her communication gear mostly useless and only a single working radio, Abby must fight to survive guided only by a stranger’s voice.

That voice belongs to John, played by Rob Delaney. He seems friendly and understanding, reaching out through the static. At first, his advice feels like a hope line—he says he gets her fear, her loneliness, her desperation. But as Abby grows weaker and starts seeing things, she questions if John is really here to help, if he’s just part of her mind, or something worse. Stuart Graham also appears, adding to a cast caught between survival and psychological fear.

The film was written by Philip Michael Howe, Hugo Keijzer, Roelof Jan Minneboo, and Xiao Tang. It touches on themes of loneliness, trust, and the blurry line between hope and madness. With dark visuals, tight tension, and a strong showing from Balinska, The Occupant looks like a must-watch thriller this summer.
