Darshana Rajendran introduced herself into the world of Malayalam entertainers with the endearing Hridayam and the outstanding Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey. However, the Malayalam actress was still able to experiment with more subtle performances in movies like Paradise and Purusha Pretham. However, in all of these films, Darshana's characters have a strong voice and remain firm, even when the circumstances are against her.

Particularly Paradise, which also features Roshan Mathew, is a moving examination of Amritha, an Indian woman who, while traveling with her husband to the devastated Sri Lanka, commits the unthinkable in a desperate situation. In an exclusive interview with OTTplay, Darshana Rajendran discusses her upcoming projects, her collaboration with Roshan Mathew in films like Paradise, the portrayal of Amritha, and her transition from popular titles like Hridayam.

Paradise by Darshana Rajendran

Amritha and Keshav travel to Sri Lanka to commemorate their anniversary in the 2023 movie Paradise, directed by Prasanna Vithanage. Darshana remarked about her role as Amritha in Paradise that it was a wonderful experience.

I found her to be a straightforward and silent individual. Although you're not hearing a lot of what she has to say, it doesn't mean she didn't have much to say. One of the first things that made me want to play Amritha was how thrilling it was for me to express everything she wanted to say without saying it too much, she added.

From Hridayam to Paradise

In Pranav Mohanlal's Hridayam, the actress portrays 'Darshana,' who is portrayed as more of a college lover. When asked about the decision between the very different worlds of Paradise and Hridayam, Darshana replied, "I don't have any rule book that says these are things I should do, I shouldn't do." I was anticipated to be in that environment to create more of it, much as right after Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey and Hridayam, when they were successful. However, I don't know how to think in that way. The producers who reached out to me were sure that I would decline because actors are thought to go through a specific path, but immediately after that, Purusha Pretham arrived.

“But I never use those as my markers; instead, I go with any character that interests me at the moment, regardless of whether it's a play, a commercial movie, a short film, or an independent film. That is why I am able to do everything, including theaters. I am genuinely thrilled to be a member of both of these groups. Only the procedures and what it demands of me are so different. That's the only method I know to expand, learn new things, and put myself in different situations. I like that a lot too," she said.

A look at Roshan Mathew and Darshana's partnership

Additionally, Darshana co-starred in the recent play Bye Bye Bypass, which was helmed by her Paradise co-star, and has worked with Roshan Mathew on several films and plays. "He is one of my longtime collaborators, we have known each other for a really long time, from being his co-actor in films to being directed by Roshan in a play," Darshana says. We have discovered cinema and acting, in a way, as we have grown up together. He is someone who gives me the impression that I am not going through this by myself. He is someone who has seen and observed all that I have accomplished and provided me with particular comments. After a movie, I approach him and ask him if there was anything wrong. You keep those people close.

“He's a fantastic director to work with, even as a director. As an actor, he has the maturity to take a step back. An actor knows how to allow the actor figure out the solution on their own if they are experiencing an issue. Someone like him has been a great pleasure to work with in every role. We are a group of people who are constantly working together. One of my cherished treasures is him.

Darshana's thoughts on her future endeavors

One of the most anticipated initiatives for Darshana is Mahesh Narayanan's picture, which features the cream of the Malayalam film industry. This movie, titled Patriot, features Mammootty, Mohanlal, Fahadh Faasil, and Kunchacko Boban. Darshana stated that Patriot still has a few more days of filming to complete. "Love Kaveri" is the name of a Tamil movie. The filming is complete, and the movie will be released shortly. Anupama Parameswaran also appears in this soon-to-be-released Telugu movie, Paradha. Additionally, I am looking forward to my play, Under the Mangosteen Tree. We are also traveling with Bye Bye Byepass.
