After its successful debut on January 10, 2025, the prison drama Black Warrant is now officially returning for a second season on Netflix. Sunil Gupta and Sunetra Choudhury collaborated on the 2019 memoir Black Warrant: Confessions of a Tihar Jailer. Gupta's time as a jailer at Tihar Jail in Delhi during the 1980s is brought to life in the series.

A summary of the plot of season 1

Zahan Kapoor's rookie officer Sunil Kumar Gupta navigates the complexities of Tihar Jail in Black Warrant. The program examines prison-related issues such as corruption, power dynamics, and moral dilemmas. The program is based on real events, such as the Ranga-Billa case and the aftermath of Indira Gandhi's murder.

In the ensemble cast, Rahul Bhat (Fitoor and Daas Dev) plays DSP Rajesh Tomar, while Zahan Kapoor plays Sunil Kumar Gupta. Anurag Thakur (Garmi) portrays Vipin Dahiya, and Paramvir Singh Cheema plays Shivraj Singh Mangat. Charles Sobhraj is played by Sidhant Gupta (Freedom at Midnight). Rajendra Gupta, Priya Chauhan, Joy Sengupta, and Rajshri Deshpande are among the actors in the supporting cast.

The first season of the program concentrated on genuine occurrences and characters, and viewers are hoping that the second season will continue to delve into the complex Indian prison system and the ethical conundrums faced by prisoners.
